    Recovering pop star Britney Spears will open the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday – less than two weeks after her managed announced “unequivocally” that she would not appear.
    And she may also have to make a less welcome appearance, in court, after her lawyer failed to get a charge of driving without a valid licence thrown out of court.
    Spears, 26, who made a disastrous appearance at last year’s VMAs in Las Vegas, when she lip-synched to Gimme More in what was billed as her comeback appearance, said she is thrilled to be part of this year’s show.
